His music evolved into something more dancefloor-heavy, and I can't get enough of it–even it is a little campy at times. I've had my ear on them for a while, keeping track ever since my sister picked up an instrumental hip hop album by DJ U-Tern in Vancouver. The full-length album from Oliver, _Full Circle_, easily tops my list of favorite albums for 2017. Undoubtedly I'll learn new favorites I missed after this post is written, but these are the top 5 I bought and put on repeat. There were a few standout albums for me this year.

Imagine me driving on a dusty wilderness road to a trailhead with the music turned up (in summer 2017, probably to this song), or watching the rain streak by an airplane window on my way home from an international conference (to my entire 2017 song list, saved offline). Welcome to my strategy for keeping a chill state of mind. Warning: Marcy Music is heavy on the bass, funk and dance vibes. That's probably why I've compiled a mixtape of my favorite tunes every year for the past 9 years. It's the perfect choice for a single and could do well on the charts with the right amount of promotion - it's less 'out there' than the songs that come before and after it but it's a real toe tapper and just another example of how LION BABE are unafraid to dip into various waters. If there's one thing I partake in every day that brings me so much comfort and joy, it's music. 'Where Do We Go' is a gorgeous little gem with sparks of influence of glamour pop and disco of the past. Her tone is forever changing, weaving its way through Lucas' mesmerising and hypnotic production - perfect examples of this come in 'Stressed OUT!' Their aforementioned experimentation with their sound is a delight for the ears, with Jillian sounding ethereal and otherworldly at times. The chemistry between singer/songwriter Jillian Hervey and instrumentalist/producer Lucas Goodman is clearly thick - the pair build upon their incredible fluidity with collaborations throughout the LP with the likes of Pharrell Williams, Andrew Wyatt, Al Shux and a major standout with Childish Gambino on second track 'Jump Hi'. For those who are more comfortable with the usual material they'll hear on the radio, this may not be the record for them, but for the more adventurous listener who's willing to expand on their musical horizons, 'Begin' is a welcome 48-minute journey. Their style is unconventional, pushing the boundaries on their sound and refusing to stay constricted to one genre. I think the best way to describe this duo would be 'like Marmite'.
